Default Vacation for the Modern Family ala Model A

While I was posting pictures, I thought I'd put up a couple from our family vacation / Model A tour to Maryland's Eastern Shore this summer.

very cool pictures! Always fun to get the family involved.. Our daughter is 12 and still thinks we are sufficiently (barely) cool enough to still hang out with

Cherish the time!

Great photo's Brian !!!
You even found some Quiet 1930's type roads with horse & wagon traffic .
Looks like Amish country to me .
It's a wonderful sight to see them plowing the fields with a large team of horses!!!

Yes! That is Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Those are real work horses, not put there by the Chamber of Commerce.

Just a quick plug for the DelMarVa Peninsula as a touring destination...

Miles of dead flat two lane roads, ready access to small towns, Amish communities, Dover AFB, John Dickinson's home, many other historic sites, Chesapeake Bay inlets and Atlantic Beaches. I've bicycled many miles there. Delaware even has a road map that highlights the LESS traveled roads. It's intended for cyclists, but it would be great for "A" drivers, too. Even the drivers of commercial and farm rigs are accustomed to cyclists... they give wide berth and a wave. I expect that "A's" would be welcomed with the same courtesy.

Access, of course, can be a challenge, but you can avoid the interstate system altogether by using the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

I love the picture of the old concrete road. Is that on the Eastern Shore? I am from that area and remember those old roads that were built during the Depression era, so they are old Model A roads and quite narrow. Many were widened like this one in the picture to become a true two-lane road. Most have been paved over, so you don't see many like that any more.

The old concrete road is on the Eastern Shore. It is near the towns of Still Pond and Betterton. It is a sort of forgotten side road.

Betterton Beach was quite the destination back in the day - before my time. I have not been there in years.

It was a fun trip. I'd like to do another one. We drove about the right amount each day, and then got some exercise. My kids love the car but they don't want to spend hours and hours in it.
