How can you tell who built the body for 1931 s\w town sedan, it has nameplate on firewall but not legible ? Thanks Carl

My late31 tudor's body number is in the cross member where the seats attach :-)

Door windows- straight on top or curved? straight-Briggs,curved Murray Body!

The curved/straight window thing doesn't apply to the slant windshield cars.The Briggs,Murray,and Ford built S/W parts were interchangeable.

Carl was talking about a slant windshield fordor, I thought the straight /Briggs and curved / Murray door windows was for the "straight windshield fordors". Gary in MN

Briggs apparently used only D-nuts while Murray used only clinched nuts for several sheet metal locations on these bodies. The firewall is an easy place to check. The locations on the firewall are where the speedometer cable clip attaches on the passenger inside, and where the clip for the wire loom from the generator attaches on the driver side near the terminal box. Also check for the Briggs "bug" logo on the lower passenger side cowl:
