Radiator Rods w/drainage tray?

All- Took my radiator out today and attached to my radiator rods is a tin tray. Is that factory or something that someone put on? I understand the principle but is it factory? There was a piece of leather at the top of the tray as well,Ralph

Not an item I have seen before. Certainly not a stock part for any Model A I have been associated with.

In some areas known for high rainfall devices like this were used to keep water from draining through the hinges and into the ignition components. I recall seeing such a device in some older heavy equipment in coastal British Columbia.

While not a 'factory' part, a similar item was installed on A616 for it's December 1928 winter crossing from Detroit to LA and up the West Coast displaying 'The New Ford's' all weather driving abilities.

That tray might help a little bit toward keeping the engine dry, but I believe that much more water comes into the engine compartment through the radiator in a heavy rain.

Thanks everyone.........conversation piece for sure. The owner also nailed a piece of rubber mat to the back seat floorboard as you step in the car. It is on both sides and nailed down. He was thinking that is for sure! Ralph

I did the same thing back in college after a deluge/flash flood killed my engine in the desert. Made an aluminum tray w/ copper down tube as that is all I could find. Haven't been in that bad of a storm since.

Handy as a pocket on a shirt for putting tools and such on when your working on it I imagine.
