Smile Amazing 6 Volt Optima

I bought a 6 volt Optima for my '39 in the summer of 2000. It performed flawlessly. Last May 2012, I thought maybe I was running on borrowed time, so I bought another one on Amazon.

The old one went in the basement and sat there until yesterday. I put it on the charger, it charged right up and I load tested it.....load tester says it's Okay!! Not sure what I'm going to do with it, but that's one damn good product for our old Fords....based on my experience.

Jon,

You're welcome to this one if you or one of your customers can use it. Let me know and I'll drop it off at your shop.

Hey, that would be cool. I always like to hold onto a few "okay" batteries just in case.

I bought mine in 98, I credit the long life to abuse and neglect, it sits a long time and is never charged except by driving.

I've had good service from both 6 and 12 volt Optima Batteries in our antique vehicles.

I've had great luck with the three I have.Ones a 12 volt that came in my wagon when I bought the car back in 2006,it was used then and is still perfect.I also was giving two of the 6 volts from a friend that someone ordered at his work and back out on,one is in my 35 and gets used very little and always starts and the other is in my 50 F1 and gets used almost every day in summer and fall.I don't know exactly how old they are,but they are holding up awesome and I haven't charged any of them.

Which type of Optima do you all use? There are 2 or 3 different types.

not related to Optima batteries specifically, but if any battery won't take charge, a great tip I got from HRM, electronic chargers miss read the batteries, and won't charge them. The HRM tip was to connect a known good battery in a parallel with the "bad" battery to fool the charger, and it will charge it.

Also not related to Optima, but a good battery story regardless;

I bought a 12v JC Penny Forever battery in the mid 70's, price ~ $100.00, but guaranteed forever as long as you own your car. JC Penny quit having an auto dept, so they had Firestone warranty the batteries when you need a new FREE one. Been getting free replacements all these years and when I went in for the latest free replacement, the procedure changed a little...

Now you "buy" your free replacement battery at any Firestone location, take your receipt to JC Penny, show them your paperwork and they give you cash for whatever you paid Firestone for your battery.

I think it comes out to about $2.70 a year, so far to have a good battery in my first car, and each year that goes by, the cost per year continues to go lower.

3738, I have a Penney's "lifetime" battery in my 56 T-bird. Bought it around 1980. The last time I had to get a new free battery, a person at Penny's offered a buyout of the guarantee. I didn't go for it. My last battery is an Interstate. Firestone will be the next, I guess.
This was one time when I paid more than the going price for a good battery and it paid off.

I've had a 6v red top Optima in my 35 fordor for four years. I don't mess around trying to hide it in an original case. Made a dropped box that fits the original battery mounts under the floor that required no cutting or drilling of original mount. The entire assembly can be removed in 10 minutes if I ever want to go back to an original battery. At first I used a battery tender during the inactive winter months but found that to be unnecessary. I really like the no maintenance requirement and not having to worry about acid damage. I just bought another Optima for my 5W coupe. Price was $115.00 with free shipping from Amazon.com.
