Default 1947 Super Deluxe Rear-end Ratio

The only numbers I can find on my differential are a 3 and a 2 on the flange where the tork tube connects to the differential. Do you think this means I have a 3.25?

Thanks very much.....Dick.

nope, should be something else stamped in there. the stamps relate to the number of teeth on the ring and pinion gears. I don't think you have a two and a three tooth gear!

Probably 3.78 but 3.54 I think was an option. 3.54 was standard in 1946.

I think the Early Ford V8 club 1941-48 book references this subject. I think they got complaints about the cars didn't have as much "launch" off the line and went back to
the 3.78's in 1947. Back in 1995 Ford made a 3.31 standard on a F150 with the 5.0 automatic for improved fuel economy. I sold about 5 of them and had probably 4 out of 5 complaining they were shifting out of overdrive on every hill. Learned to spend the $50 to put 3.55's in them. In 1996 I think they went back to 3.55's. The more things change the more they don't!
