33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
So, I had replied to a wanted ad for a 33-34 clutch arm because I had a loose one to sell. But the arm I have is not the one they needed. It is too long. They needed the approximately 4-1/4" long arm, whereas the arm I have is around 4-3/4" long.
My question then is, what are the approximate 4-3/4" long arms? I have one loose and one more still on a 33-34 V8 transmission, which makes me question that the longer arm is 4 cyl. I also have a 33 4-cylinder transmission here that has the 32 arm, but they could have all been changed over the years. Thanks! |

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
Unfortunately, that informative lineup of clutch release arms in the photo is missing two, namely BB-7511 which conforms to 18-7511, except it is curved to achieve the offset, not kinked. The other MIA is 40-7511-A, for the four-cylinder chassis. That shown is 40-7511-B, for V8 chassis.

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
David, so the longer arm is 40-7411-A? Wonder why it didn't get a 46- prefix if it was intended only for the 4-cyl?
Regarding the BB arm, I had one a few years ago that I removed from a BB clutch housing that was dimensionally the same as either the 18-7511 or B-7511, can't remember now, except that the pin hole location was maybe 10 or 15 degrees or so rotated from the standard position. Always wondered about that one. |

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
Possibly it was for RHD? The pin holes for RHD are oriented differently. Normally have an 'F' as part of the part number.

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
I just checked my RHD cars and both the 4 cylinder and the V8 use the 40F-7511 clutch release arm. There was no A or B at the end

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
Only four-cylinder components that were unique to commercial vehicles have a 46-prefix part number. Those four-cylinder components used on both passenger cars and commercial vehicles used the 40 prefix.

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
According to the 1949 printed version of the 28-48 Green Bible, the 40-7511-A arm was listed as the part used for the 1933-34 passenger car with the V-8 engine. The 40-7511-B arm was listed for the 33-34 passenger car with the 4 cylinder engine.
However, then it repeats the 40-7511-B arm with the V-8 engine application for various 1938-39 commercial and truck applications, as well as the unique 1939 Commercial vehicle with the V-8 60hp application. So there was always the difference in length apparently for 1933-34 when fitted in V-8 or Four cylinder applications.

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
With respect, I'll leave it up to you decide. Which do you think is more accurate, the 1934 edition of the chassis parts catalog (which I used) or the one published fifteen years later that you refer to as a "bible"? I do not know of a single serious restorer who uses that "bible" for regular reference given its distance in time from the parts used in actual production and all of the changes that occur with service parts, so we must all be atheists.

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
Ahhh....I know better than to trust the later versions for 100% accuracy. They do occasionally add to the application list. I already knew about the two versions for 1933-34 but the photo image we created of the various arms was done before I had the knowledge of the two types.

Re: 33-34 Clutch Release Arm Question
Here’s an arm that I sold a few weeks ago. I’m almost certain it was a 33-34 four cylinder arm. It was mint!! David
