Default 1931 Gas tank, hole in flange?

I'm in the middle of bodywork on my late 31 roadster, and I just noticed this extra hole in the front left edge of the gas tank flange. I looked on the firewall and I don't see anything that this hole lines up with, but this hole looks like it could have been factory. Does this belong or should I fill it in? Thanks!

I find that extra hole in the late 31 tanks. I think it was there for hanging the tank on the conveyor system at the factory. they have that same big hole in the late 31 front fenders where it connects to the running board,

I do not think that the extraneous hole is visible once the tank is installed and the welting is in place. The photo is of an earlier tank, the last version used with the flat firewall, and it does not have the extra hole.

the large extra hole is in the same line as the screws on the front of the tank and yes the hole is visible after installation.
