opinion on Rad filters
I just had my Rad cleaned out and am soaking the block in Evapocool. Here is what I am thinking about:
Reassemble and fill up the system with a Nylon sock in the upper hose to catch any large loose chunks. Then replace it with one of the GANO filters to catch smaller items. Sound reasonable or should I just put a GANO Filter in and monitor? The picture I saw had some pretty large chunks in the upper tank. Mike

A filter is a good idea--monitor regularly

Re: opinion on Rad filters
I think I would just flush the block good maybe with a power washer rather than install a filter which could get clogged before it's checked and therefore get you to overheat drastically and cause damage. FWIW JMO

Re: opinion on Rad filters
I have the Gano and have for years. It is good because you can easily check it and see if it needs to be cleaned. Not so with the pantyhose setup.

Re: opinion on Rad filters
Once it catches the chunks, you can take it out. You are just trying to catch the stuff you dislodged during cleaning. It’s a shame to block a few tubes of a new core.

Re: opinion on Rad filters
I would love to pull the head off or use a HP hose on her. But, right now she is in the garage and I can't move her out to the drive way. So what I may do is flush her the best I can, reassemble and back her out. The hit her with the hose-after I install a sock to catch anything that got dislodged until I can add the GANO filter. I may add a hose to the faucet and use that. This will be interesting to figure out.
Thanks, Mike

Re: opinion on Rad filters
ack nooo. id keep the radiator far away from any possibility of regunk up again.
Tom Wessenberg showed how he used an old sump pump to circulate the water in the bottom out the top and let that setup run for awhile. then reverse the hoses. I did the same using an old pool pump. Goal is high flow pump to get the water moving as quick as possible. When i rebuilt my engine i cleaned with wires drills poking stabbing scrapping thru all the water jacket holes and got alot of scale out. AFter this flow tons of silt and small rust debris came out in the water.

Re: opinion on Rad filters
I just ordered a (1 7/8" - 2 1/8") Gano filter.
Is that the size that everyone else ordered? Last edited by Neil Mylar LakewoodCA; 04-11-2018 at 08:27 PM. Reason: size |

Re: opinion on Rad filters
Neil, I think that is the one as I just ordered it in clear plastic.
