59AB engine
I have a 59AB engine in my 34 BB stake truck. When I bought the truck It came with a lot of extra parts. The fan and gen were not on the engine. I put a generator with a fan on the engine and drove it this past summer. Didn't really cool that well.
In my extra parts, I have a double pulley for the crankshaft and a separate fan that has the horseshoe end to attach to the engine like the generator. Will this fasten over the top of the generator bolt from the manifold ? or does the bolt need to be longer to hold both fan and gen. Don |

Re: 59AB engine
It sounds like you want to put two belt driven fans on it. If that is true, consider that it was not designed that way and that you are treating the symptom of poor cooling, not the problem. Try flushing the radiator and block, its cheap and more likely to address the problem. A lot of people like Skip's water pumps for higher flow. I have a pair, they work great at 100F and 5000' altitude on my truck but I never ran anything else so no basis of comparison. Lastly, these things don't cool like a modern car, temp climbs under heavy load or climbing long hills, so check your expectations as well.

Might define what "didn't cool that well" means to you. What temps under what conditions? Was it boiling over?

Re: 59AB engine
The bolt should work for both the generator and the fan bracket. It was originally intended for that application.

Re: 59AB engine
The below from Mac Van Pelt shows the radiator tilted to the rear and that may not allow for the later fan. Ed

Re: 59AB engine
I have a 59AB in my '38 pickup. I'm running the "horse shoe" fan mount as in the photo above. I don't know how it will line up in your truck but in mine it lowered the fan to the center of the radiator and moved it forward. Works great, really moves a lot of air.
I'm not up on '34s but there are several lengths of the generator mount fans. Too short and it may not cool that well. |

Re: 59AB engine
My experience, the stud is longer on the double belt set up.

Re: 59AB engine
Thanks for the info. That wasw what I was trying to do but thought I'd ask the question first. I'll have to make sure it is fastened securely on the bolt.

Re: 59AB engine
The generator mount on the 59A has a bolt hole on each side of the slot for the gen mounting stud. Those two bolts hold the fan mount.
