3:78 into a 1935 Ford Banjo
We are in the process of putting a 3:78 ring and pinion into my 1935 rear end that is 4:11 right now. We have run into a bearing problem...I bought the bearing set from Bob Drake......The differential bearings (The ones that mount at the large end of the bells and on the ring gear) and races in the kit are thicker than the old bearings in the '35 rear end. More research indicates that these thicker bearings are for 1937-1948 ....and I need 1932-1936 bearings which are thinner. I want to make sure that I cannot use the thicker ones as I am having a terrible time finding the 1932-1936 bearings. Does anyone know whether or not I can use the thicker bearings and races?.....and if I cannot does anyone know where I can buy the 1932-1936 bearings and races? Thank-you,....Matt in Alameda

Try All Ford Parts in Campbell, CA. Any of the guys there know their stuff. The later bearings will not fit in the '35-'36 housings. You'll need the 18- part # bearing.
Good luck, Paul J. |

If there is a local bearing supply shop they can almost always match the bearing numbers for you. They will ether have them in stock or can order them. Just another source if you can't get them through an old Ford supplier.
