Default Rear Axle Cart

Hi Folks,

I know some of you have built rear end carts for rolling the rear axle out from under the car. Anyone have pictures or plans for building one of these great tools?

Thanks, Steve

I made two wheels out of 1/2 inch plywood just a little larger then the brake drums. We used thees to roll the rear out from under the car and down the street to my neighbors garage. Wnen we finished rebuilding it we rolled it back and under the car.

Attached photo of a roll around cradle for removing a rear axle assembly from a Model A. Note some of the features. The U-shaped section is so a floor jack can be placed under the banjo. Counter weights at the front so the rear axle assembly can be pivoted up-side-down for painting without the roll around doing a back flip.

I have a set of dollies for moving a car around the workshop. I simply put one under each backing plate. Job done!

Car skates work nice,or the little cheap three wheeled furniture dollys.I use the skates if there are no tires on the car. But,because I have a lift I can just use the tires if they are on there.I unhook everything first, and leave the rear end hanging on the loose U-bolts.I drop the car down until the rear rests on the floor, finish taking the U-bolts off,and pick the car back up again, leaving the rear sitting there. With the tires on it I can just wheel the rear end around like a big golf bag caddy.
