Default Y-Block Intake Install Question

I've got a friend that is re-installing his intake manifold on his 272 Y-Block.
He's wondering about if, and what he should use for sealant? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

you dont need any sealant orther than just a little on the manifold itself to help hold the gasket in place till he gets the manifold down on the engine, if he really thinks he needs more put it on the manifold only, that way if he has to remove it later the gasket will be stuck to the manifold , makes it a lot easier to remove and nothing falls into the valve galley

You don't need a sealant usually, but i put a thin coat of silicone around the water ports only.

+ 1 on the silicone around the water ports (sparingly). Works like a charm...these intakes seal very well.

Sealing the gaskets to the bottom of the intake is not the way it was designed to be installed. Just place the gaskets on the heads. The two studs in the middle will hold the gasket in place. Set the manifold down on the heads and install the bolts and the middle hold down clamps. Dont need to use any sealant if head and manifold mating surfaces are properly cleaned. I have never had a leak doing it this way and it is way easier than applying the gaskets to the bottom of the manifold

With 55 years of Y block wrench experience, Ditto. Intake manifold gaskets go on the heads first.
