Default Truck load of new 1953 Fords

How do you like this truck load of brand new 1953 Fords. There seems to be two Victoria Hard Tops up front, while the white car appears to be a Sunliner Convertible, plus a pair of Country Sedans and two others. Very nice. However, I don't go much for the styling of the Prime Mover, as the front of it looks like s brick with nil aerodynamics.

Cool photo. No 2 dr. Ranch Wagons though. As far as aerodynamics go, I doubt anything would help given the hard top hanging over the front of the carrier. I'd hate to see it in a panic stop situation given 1953 brakes.

I took my driver's test in a '53. It was two shades of green, a Mainliner 2dr sedan. Like any of them, I shoulda hung onto it, make a good cruiser.

Unlike passenger vehicles that were slower to adopt power brakes, trucks at that time had been using 'air brakes' for many years.

I had power brakes (not air brakes) on my 1948 Seagrave pumper. I never knew how well they worked until the engine quit on me one time; I was actually standing on the brake pedal with both feet, pulling up as hard as I could on the steering wheel and it would barely slow down.

IIRC back in the day big trucks had "Caution Air Brakes" painted on the back of their trailers since the typical car driver didn't realize that they could stop as quickly as they did. Cut down on rear end collisions. Still by today's standards that rig took a bit to stop.

.

That top, front one looks just like "Richard in Florida's" car. Wonder where he got off to? He hasn't visited here in over three years. DD

When driving one needs to be aware of the overhang above you. When I was a kid I lived on a street with many different dealerships and I really respected that guy who would back the top car down the ramps. I'm sure there were a few mishaps.
