Changing front spring...

You always know your in for a long struggle when the "black book" figures an hour to do this job. I usually multiply the numbers in the book by 2 or 3 depending on the condition of the fasteners and rust

Crank case front bearing cotters/nuts came off well but the pictured spring was so rusted up inside the frame rails I had to cut the tie bolt and drive apart the leaves.

Got the new spring and shackles installed, waiting for the paint to cure on the front spring clip bar and other small parts.

Hope to get a road test in before the snow flies and then start changing the bands.

A friend of mine once insisted that I understand the importance of unhooking the battery when changing bands.

It seems that having his hand in the trans and accidently leaning on the start button was very uncomfortable.

Hey Tom, I can see that happening I have a routine that when my vehicles are parked the quick disconnect is off the negative post and the battery is on a tender.

That is a great reminder indeed, kinda like making sure the e-brake lever is all the way BACK and set before trying to hand crank the engine Scott
