I'm in the process of reassembling a '34 transmission using NOS Ford parts. I'm finding it difficult to slide the following parts onto the 6 splines of the B7061 Mainshaft - these parts > the B-7100 low/reverse sliding gear, the B-7104 second gear bushing and the B-7124 synchro assembly. They'll start just a little bit but then they tend to bind. I'm afraid they might get damaged or stuck on the shaft should I try force them using percussion of some sort. I tried another main shaft and experienced the same problem. Any suggestion out there?

Check carefully for any burrs. Light lube on the parts helps and the parts should slide with some drag if all new.

You might give the heat & cool system a try.

I believe if you have, or have access to, Mac VP's transmission book, he covers the key areas on how to get these transmissions together. There are definitely some little assembly tricks to learn on these Early Ford transmissions.

All that stuff should slide on the main shaft. If that main shaft is new, a person may need to check the major diameter over the splines, check the spline widths, and check the spline depths. It sounds like a major diameter problem though. It may not have been finished correctly at manufacture.

I was able to get the parts assembled, guys. A few burrs removed, some light lubricant and a few gentle taps with a small semi-hard-rubber hobby mallet did the job. All is well....And THANKS!
