California Duster
I bought a new California Duster at Costco for my '55 T-Bird.
It is totally different from my 20 year old one. The old one had a coating on it that picked up dust, but the new one (same brand) just moves it around. Does anyone have experience loading the duster with something that holds dust. I thought of spraying Pledge, or some kind of furniture polish on it, but am not ready to experiment, if someone has done this already. I the the original had some kind of paraffin coating, which the new one lacks, but I have no idea how to duplicate the coating. Suggestions appreciated, Rick |

Re: California Duster
Did you lay it out on some newspaper to remove the coating it has on it? I know that I bought one a while back that did the same then someone told me the instructions say to do that. Who reads instructions?

Re: California Duster
Wow, you got me there okie. Never read the instructions. Now I have to go find some newspaper to try that out.
Dang it. If this works I will be gobsmacked upside the head. Stay tuned. |

Re: California Duster
Okie,
You were right on with your diagnosis. I laid the duster on cardboard, in the bed of my pickup for a week. It now works fine. I finally found the instructions on the back side of the card that was in a see through window on the bag. In small print it said to look at the reverse side for instructions. Thank you |

If only you would have included a picture of that gobsmack upside the head. Glad it worked.

Re: California Duster
I bought another one to keep in another car. It has a tag on it that says........
1. Remove duster from it's protective cellophane bag. 2. Set your duster on newspaper, and let it air out for 48 hours. 3. Shake Duster vigorously before and after each use. I imagine it allows evaporation of some chemicals. Later on it also says...Until the duster is seasoned by 2 or 3 uses, it may leave minor streaks, but after it is seasoned it should not. Other rules include.........lightly dusting the surface, do not rub, and use on ly on COOL dry surfaces (not in the sun). My words: The dirtier it gets the better it works, use it on a dusty car, not a 'dirty' car. I dust my car before and after using. Only takes a couple minutes. |

Re: California Duster
Ok thanks, I'll leave the new one in the house for the wife for a week or so and then let it disappear.
