Default New to Barn 1930 Model A

This is my first venture into a vehicle this old. I've had dozens of cars from Mustangs, MGs, Trans Ams, Corvettes, Z28s, etc, and now I wanted to go back to something that has some heritage and strong following. I was looking at Packards, but the thought of limited parts sources and waning participation in forums were not a good indicator, so I searched out either a Model A or T.

After quite a search, I did find this 1930 that I ended up purchasing. It arrived yesterday and I was very excited. There are items that will need to be addressed, but I wanted to get a good foundation to work with. I'll be posting a couple items later today that I'll be working on, but I'll save that for the other post. I'm mad that I missed out by hours on a '31 Victoria, but this will be a good second place winner.

Good Morning...paul@paulshinn has a number of videos on how to maintain your Model A. You might want to watch a few and see what you think of his advice...sometimes watching a video is better than reading the instructions in a book...or at least a combination of both is helpful. Ernie in Arizona

That's a good looking sedan. When was it restored?

Actually - it is the videos that he did that lured me from looking at 30's -early 40's Packards to rethinking Model A's. I sold my Corvette about a month ago, and had been looking at both for quite a while, but I believe this will be a good choice for me.

Good looking Model A.

As you can see, I like Tudors.

Glad to see you have gotten into the hobby. I have been here since April, 1964 and have loved tinkering with Model As ever since. Get a copy of the Model A Ford Mechanics Handbook, Vol I and a copy of the Model A Service Bulletins and start studying. Ed PS I purchased a 1931 Victoria last December.

I kick myself as I had just by the skin of my teeth missed out on a '31 Victoria near Buffalo, NY. I had seen stalking it for months, and finally when I had an opportunity to pursue it, it sold. I'm not disappointed in this one though, it is a good second choice for one "fairly" close to me. When I had my MGs, I probably had the best time tinkering, troubleshooting, then enjoying - that is what I'm expecting and hoping on this.

Not sure. This was purchased as part of a multi vehicle purchase from the previous owner. There are some exterior flaws, but I'm optimistic in overcoming them, and of course once winter draws it last breath, being able to enjoy it.

Thought I'd post a quick video I made on the departure of my '70 Corvette that I had for 30 years, and the first drive of my 1930 after it was delivered. I think some may appreciate the visual effects.

Beautiful sedan! Replace the original steel fan with a new repro cast aluminum fan and get a reprint or original owners manual and the red Les Andrews repair book is of great help for the garage mechanic that has a Model A. Safe driving!!

Great looking car ! Similar story here, my recently acquired ‘30 Tudor (1 week ago) is parked beside my ‘65 Mustang. I’ve wanted an A since riding in my Uncle’s sedan delivery as a child. Good luck with yours and enjoy the ride !
