Default 36 grill trim

I'm installing the grill trim on my 36 and have come upon a problem. The stainless trim does not engage the hood ornament. Both items are Drake reproductions. I don't know if the problem is with the stainless or the ornament. My ornament measures 3 3/4" tip to tip. Anyone have an original to measure? Thanks, Jack

If you have a replacement grille (the fit of the Argentine ones insult the word reproduction too much) the issue is almost certainly the grille.

In any case defect or damage to the grille should be recognizable once the complete front sheet metal is assembled on the car including radiator, fenders, inner fenders, and hood. This should be assembled first.

From what the pic shows you are trying to align it with nothing mounted. No way to really tell until the radiator & grille are in its proper place. When I did my 36 I had a Drake ornament, orig grille and Walker radiator. It all fit perfect.I had orig stainless grille side trim.I have found that the repo side trim is of a thinner(SS) material and requires some adjusting to get it to fit right.I tossed them and found original pieces.

My '36 coupe had an original one piece grille, and I had the original stainless trim for the grille and hood straightened and polished. I used a Bob Drake V8 hood ornament and everything lined up and fit reasonably well when the front end was assembled.

I can't help ya with the grill, but you ought to just forget that '36 and go out and watch all the "funny-looking" airplanes flittin'-around up there this week. DD

I only live a half block from the airport, so I have a ringside seat. The other day the B-25's were out and they came right over the house while landing. Also neat to see 2 B-29's flying together.

You ARE a lucky man!
Ah yes, Doc and Fifi! This is the first time that two B-29s have flown together since the early '50s. DD
