Default Diamond block for Mark

I didn't want to hijack the thread about Mark's motor with some pics he asked for so I just started a new one. These pics are of a very rare 1 month only oil pan. These pans were only produced for the December 31 engines and were the pre-runners for the 32 pan. This first pan is one I got from fleabay and is in it's purchased condition. You can see it is definitely a Model A pan and has the hex oil bung. The pan is it's original and has 4 stamped holes in the flat.

This next pan is one I traded for and it has it's original tray inside it. It also has the hex bung and the same holes in the tray. This pan looked like the bung had been welded in from another pan so, I took a picture from the inside which shows it has not been modified and is original. You can see the holes are stamped and not drilled.

The last one and the first I found. This one is also just like the 2 previous but the tray is a very late Dec or early Jan. The holes are bigger, there are 5 not 4 and, the lip around the pump has been deleted for the shield to fit. I love collecting rare parts like this especially when I can document their existence. Hope this may help with future revisions of the JS since I don't see any reference to these in my copy.

It's worth mentioning that the oil pump shield fits the other two pans as well. Those trays drop lower in the pan than the more common trays. I've never seen the last type you show. In fact I've not seen it in a "B" engine. I'm betting it's from a mid-late 30's Model A engine.

Right on the shield. As for the pan with the large holes, it could be from a later motor since parts get changed over the years. I have 2 of these trays.
