Default Engine build

I have been accumulating parts to build up a second engine. I have a 59AB block with not cracks, a worn standard Merc crank, 3 5/16 pistons(used but in good shape) with rods that came out of an old motor that I tore apart years ago.

I live in Nor Cal (30 miles south of Oregon border) just east of I-5. I am looking for a place to get the block bored and the crank turned. Maybe even have them put the engine together. I would go as far south as Sacramento and as far north as Portland.

Any suggestions.

Tim

My kind of engine build! I doubt you'll find a shop that will install your used parts and stand behind the job. They could do the machine work, check the rods and Ol' Ron's book will help you with setting up the rod bearings etc. Good luck with the project and I hope someone chimes in with a good shop.

I made the drive a few years ago. A lot to look at . I needed more time.

There used to be another guy in Santa Rosa that I bought a front seal from. I think he was the one that masterminded it. He now lives in Sacramento area and does vintage engine rebuilding. Anybody have his number

Uh, everything posted here about the Grant's Pass place is it is one to avoid. May be out of business. Do a search on this forum and read people's experience of being ripped off.

Here's a little follow up to deuce roadster's post. Not good news.

Most shops can bore the block, fit the pistons and grind/cut the seats and check the rods for use . Then just toss it together. Sounds like the dozens if builds done "back in the day" This rekieves the shop from any liability questions. We have a shop here in Vt that will not build a flathead. They say it takes too much time and the cost is twice that of a BC. However the machune work is done at he same price. So just get your hands dirty.
