Default 38 Pickup Front Fender

My front fenders mount to the cab with two bolts and cag nuts. There is a third bolt hole near the base of the cab, but there is no matching hole in the fender. I can't remember what was there, if anything, when I disassembled the fenders some time ago. More curious that concerned. Does anyone know what this hole is for?

Does you cab have a cage nut there? My 38 does.

Looking @ both my left/right fenders on the 39 there are only the upper two fender/cab bolt supports, I do not have that lower third hole.

Comparing it to mine, that hole there would show as the downward curve of my fenders meet up with the running boards below that area.

Also looking back @ pre-resurrection pictures of my old fenders there is not a bolt or cage nut in that area. Others may chime in here as well.

This is speculation, but the 1-1/2 ton may have had a bolt at that location and Ford easily could have had the nuts on the 1/2 ton even if not used.

I just went out and checked the original fenders that were on my 1/2T '38 when I purchased it. Both front fenders have a slotted hole at that location and they would have been bolted to the caged nut.

My fenders do not have the corresponding hole. I think we can chalk it up to some sort of running production change. Or maybe Henry just wanted to save the cost of an extra bolt. Thanks to all.
