Default manifold quality

So, I have to replace the intake manifold and am thinking of replacing the exhaust manifold as well IF the new ones that are being offered are good. It's a shame that one has to be wary of buying NEW. New should mean......well, good as new but, alas, it often does not. So, if I buy both manifolds new, can I expect to bolt them on and have them fit as they should with no leaks and no mounting anomalies??. Are there good and bad ones out there (different manufacturers) or are they all the same?.

Don't WORRY, just buy a matched set & carefully install them with the Copper gaskets & you're DONE!

Bolt them together and be sure they are on one flat surface. If not, have them surfaced.

Check out the intake and exhaust manifolds the Steve over at Beth's offers. Parts A-9449 and A-9430. They specifically state they are IS A made and machined to match perfectly. Bought a set this spring for my rebuilt motor. Glad I did. They are working greasy with 1300 miles on the rebuilt motor.

Any time you change ether intake or exhaust they need to be checked for flatness, that includes new. If they are not don't do like one car we had in, they had pulled the two tight to the engine and snapped the new exhaust manifold.

Bratton's and Snyder's each have their own made but we have used both and each works well.

When installing manifolds, loosen the 2 bolts that hold them together!

Two years ago I bought one from Snyders and other than having to grind off the casting flash to make it look purty, it was flat and matched the intake well. No issues and no longer blowing exhaust gaskets.

I did not paint it by the way. I used the manifold paste that Eastwood sells.... Calyx. Have to rub on a new coat once a year with a tool brush but it looks original and no chipping or peeling or rusting. Also use the Calyx on the base of the spark plugs to eliminate the surface rust. Does a nice job and makes them look original.
