New life for old truck..

Well after the parade the other day I decided it was time to retire the old engine and get the truck ready for new life. I think I cleared the entire route of mosquitoes and some parade goers with smoke. The old power plant is weak and tired. A few months back I had tried to take up the rod bearings only to find that there were no more shims. Oh well put it off as long as I could.

If you can't get the rod bearings re-metaled by a pro, and you mainly see parade use, you can get by if you had a little white metal and a big soldering iron, plus lots of scraping to fit. i did. One old rod bearing managed to build up all 4 rods.
Works well enough for a low speed low mileage machine.

Or are you saying you built up another engine already?

Thanks for the information. Yes I have another 18 ready to go in, maybe in a couple of weeks when I get clear of a few other projects. That engine has some modern updates inside so it should work very well. Probably no fun to get started the fist few times being it is not a starter motor however I was smart enough to go with a starter ring and a hogs head that has the starter option should I want to do that later.
