I'm sure somebody has, but that doesn't make it a good choice. I Really like them in my bigger trucks, but in a car it would just seem wrong.

Not sure why you would want to! Somewhat like trying to put a Semi transmission in a sports car. They are difficult to shift and the gearing is totally wrong for a lighter car. What would be the objective?

The truck four speed transmission has a super low "granny" gear you won't need, Some syncro transmissions have an overdrive in the top gear instead.

Re: 1948 non syncro 4 speed truck trans
In addition to the transmission being a poor candidate for use in a car, so are the clutch and pressure plate. The clutch/presser plate are too large a diameter for car use, unless you were building it to pull stumps in a field. The larger diameter clutch reduces performance (acceleration) and requires increased leg pressure to use.
"i have never driven one" I would guess it would take less than a minute of attempting to drive one to convince you how bad of an idea it would be! Last edited by JSeery; 09-06-2017 at 08:18 PM. |

It is a boat anchor, unless it is in a larger truck. Don't put it in a car. You're better off with a 3 speed trans. If you want to get fancy, go for a T-5 or something similar.
