Different '41 parking lights?
I noticed the '41 convertible shown in "Fords in the snow" has circular parking lights below the head lights. My '41 tudor has them on top of the fenders and so do other '41 Fords I've seen. A friend is building a '41 'vert street rod and it has the same circular light as the car in the snow.We thought it was an earlier modification by someone as it also had old Pontiac circular tail lights. The question I have is; do some '41 cars have different parking lights depending on the model?

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
DONO50, Thanks .That's a great looking '50 tudor you have! 41's have a unique fender and most have parking lights on top of the fender.BUT,some have them similar to the '47-8 that are down under the headlight.???????

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
Anyone seen the old movie Tobacco Road recently? The '41 Fords featured in the movie have no parking lights. Studio modification maybe?

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
It seems that the circular lights were done by customizers because I have looked at many, many pix of '41's and none with them are stock. Thanks all! Bill

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
Every 41 I have seen has the lights on the fenders. I have had 2 of them
and the lights were on the fenders. It is how I can spot a 41 quickly. Don't know why Ford moved them. I think the few 42 Fords had the lights under the headlights John |

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
I've owned 6 41 coupes and 1,2 door sedan, over the years. All of my cars have had Lights on the fenders. I did buy a front clip for a 41 in Pittsburgh Pa. in 1966 that had lower fender lights. And a friend of mine had a 42 Coupe with the lower lights. ( these lights were not add on,as there were no filled holes in the upper fenders) 47 and 48's had the lower lights, and also the 46 pickup I had,had them. I can't tell you how,why or where about them. I always wondered about that myself. Guess it doesn't help, just my experience. Re: Different '41 parking lights?
maybe they took off the parking lights in movie Tobacco Road, when they hoisted those cute movie star butts onto the fenders during a scene, they would have been too uncomfortable to imagine.

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
Hi Big Al, you are correct in that the late '41 Mercury used the 11-A Ford parking lamps. The early '41 Mercuries had very nice 19-A lamps, and the lens were completly different. When I found my '41 Mercury convertible back in '84, I thought: Why would someone remove the beautiful Mercury parking lights and put on those Ford lights? My research proved that only the very early Mercuries had the 19-A lamps.

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
A small detail, I was using up some leftover paint to shoot spare rim and light bases. My Super Deluxe lights were painted body color, not black or argent:

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
I recently bought a 41 Super Deluxe with turn signals. The switch and lever assembly is built into the steering coluum and appears to be factory. I did'nt know they were available in 41. Can anyone shed light on this?

Here is a link to the 1941 Mercury sales folder. It has a better, but not clear look at the parking lights.

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
I found a couple of pictures of '41 Mercs with a parking lamp with a raised top chrome ridge that extended over the glass an inch or so. Some others appeared to be frosted with a front that looked to be a clear disc. Funny how we tend to get fixated on stuff like this! Happy New Year all!

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
Could be,could be after market turn signal add ons. I know the owner couldn't have done it. Tools were a mystery to him. Here's a pic of a 41 Merc you can kinda see the fin on top of the light. and a 42 woody with the rectangular lights. Ed

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
Tbirdhandyman had commented on how pretty the early ones were and the ones we have found are a lot better looking than what are on the majority an also on the '41 Fords. Thanks guys.

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
Hi,
justa note on the clolr of the 41 parking lights. I am not 100 percent sure but i think the parking light bases should be black, not body color. Any comments on this? Al 5 |

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
It just shows the correct placement of the rectangular lights, confirming what you posted earlier in the thread. So people can see the difference. Thanks Ed

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
Am finishing my 41 sedan coupe, park lights on top of fenders, the light body painted body color, but beware of repro lenses. Don't remember the seller but I could not get it to fit right and luckily found NOS, fit like a dream.

Re: Different '41 parking lights?
It has to be a modification in my mind. The first Ford to use those parklites was 42"jailbar" truck, correct me if I'm wrong.
