Default 1941 Super Deluxe convertible / Pricing question

Would appreciate help regarding any recent sales of restored lower mileage examples done to a “local show winner” (not regional or national) standard.

Hagerty indicates a possible value of about $30,000 , but is a little thin on actual sales details.

Trying to set a friend’s expectations.

Thank you.

There was a '41 convertible on Hemmings last week and another one up for auction. You could track those down.

Time was, the '41 was considered an ugly duck. That was then, so don't put any weight on those opinions these days.
The only two opinions that hold any degree of accuracy are those of the buyer and seller.

With its blunt nose and bulbous trunk, it’s definitely an acquired taste; the ‘41 seems more “Dick Tracy” than Gatsby, a real departure from the elegant lines of Ford’s pre-war styling. Still, it’s growing on me as it honestly reflects the change in the nation’s psyche.

The car in question was “restored” by a local body / paint shop; bodywork / paint have been competently done, interior and top outsourced and done well. Engine bay is “confused”, but easily sorted / improved.

Hagerty suggests a value of about $30,000 for this condition - solid driver, capable of winning at the local level (not regional and definitely not Dearborn).

This said, the loss of members of the Greatest Generation and carnage among the Bitcoin bros haven’t helped pricing of late; would $25,000 be a reasonable expectation for the owner ?

This seems comparable, but is a dealer offering and pricing is of course an ask and not a “strike”

Another Aussie 41!

Kind of a red headed stepchild of the car set, these are an unappreciated value.

Don't quote me, but I seem to recall either on my local Craigslist or another site a '41 convert, similar to what you describe, in the low $20's. I think you are in the ball park and would start at $20K and see what happens. You can always increase your offer, but you can never decrease it during negotiations.

In part, I agree with you.

1941 Fords, for most of us, still consider them ugly ducklings. The actual sold prices indicate that is a true statement.

Values of these cars have certainly not increased.

I'd nearly purchased a '41 convertible a few years ago. A 997-point car that was, obviously, stunningly restored.
The seller was asking $55k, which was no doubt much less than he'd invested in the restoration. Car sold for just barely north of $30k.
I'd thought at that price, it would be a fun "driver". Still, even at that (sold) price, I just couldn't wrap my head around owning a '41.

It’s a tough sell indeed; bought my ‘36 Phaeton for $30,000 last year - as good, or better, and surely more elegant

Checked e-Bay completed items and found two that sold. One for $26,000 and one for $30,500. It looks like Hagerty's estimate is close. With today's economy I suspect $25K to 27K would be a decent price for a fairly quick sale depending on condition.

As a '41 owner, I have to agree with the opinions that they are for the most part less visually appealing. With one exception, the early model-year short door coupe without the chrome mustache and extraneous added side trim.

1941 Ford Super Deluxe Fordor Sedan. This is the only 1941 Ford that I can recall seeing when I was growing up. This photo was taken in 1961.
That shows you how rare Australian Assembled 1941 Fords are in Australia.
The reason being that by the time that the 1941 Fords were released midway through 1942, Australia was involved in WWII.

You are clearly a man of excellent refined tastes.

1941 Ford short door business coupe from the "Special" line of lower priced cars. This could have been yours in 1941 for $670 but it came with only one wiper, one taillight, one horn, one sun visor, no glove box lock, no horn ring and plastic side trim.
