Default eBay was hacked

Just saw that eBay was hacked and most, if not all, personal data was exposed, hacked, stolen.

They say that we should change our passwords. I went on the site and was unable to see how to do that. Maybe someone here could explain how to do it.

Easy to change password.

About the third one down is "Password".

Why won't ebay tell everyone about it by email. The site does not mention a thing about bring hacked. Something does not look right.

This happened once before about 18-19 years ago and nothing happened then with members. If you can change it go ahead and make the change BUT Pay Pal has NOT been effected.

Verify that on Paypal. When you purchase, you have to log into Paypal separately.

The two are connected - but a separation has been maintained.

Doesn't hurt to change it. Better to be safe than sorry. I got hacked from the Target fiasco last December. Luckily my credit card bank recognized a $1000 charge as possible fraud. Contacted me immediately, canceled my card and reissued a new one which I had in hand in a couple of days.

If all else fails, just type in a wrong password, then click on "forgot my password", takes you to the reset password screen.

I quit paypal for that reason [hacking]! I send a message to the seller if they would accept u.s.post office money orders... Most do [except 1 "a" seller in wisc.] . He was selling a cowl light connector [one on front fender] his loss. Just a backup that i thought i might need one day.

Well, they must be overwhelmed by the breach.

I've been attempting to change my password for eBay and PayPal for two hours and can't get through.

Putting my money under the mattress!

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER follow a link in an email. Type the address in manually - "ebay.com" is pretty easy.

It's extremely easy for a phising artist to generate a realistic looking email and to generate phony links that take you to some Russian webpage instead of the one that's displayed. The "need to reset password" email is one of the most common hacking attempts.

I just logged into my ebay account and there is nothing anywhere about needing to reset passwords. I would think if ebay was hacked that thoroughly, it would be headline news.

A couple of weeks ago Ebay asked me to add another character to my password as "my ebay" wouldn't accept my then current password, maybe that's why they wanted it. Hmmmm.

Changed my password this afternoon. If the theives try to use my info to borrow money, they are in for a big suprise. With what these med bills have done to my credit rating, they might be able to borrow enough for a thimble full of water. Rod
