wheel ID help.....
Cleaning out shed and thru lapse of memory..can't remember what's it off of (ole timers) , anyone know..is it worth putting back in shed?
The clues: If I can post pics should come up to show left finger in pic shows KH stamp; right finger in pic shows script ford stamp; 5-51/2 holes; 15 inch; looks to be ford green original paint. Must have been spare that was used sparingly as in new condition. Last edited by hardtimes; 04-10-2012 at 04:44 PM. Reason: pics,,, |

Re: wheel ID help.....
Not pre 64 pickup, that rim did not have raised area around the center recess. Also the trucks used a 16 inch.

Re: wheel ID help.....
Actually they had either 15 or 16 inch wheels available from '49 up through 1965 for the 1/2 ton Ford pickups, with the "innie" hubcap mounting nubs. 1966 pickups went to the outer hubcap nubs.

I know K H made many of the wire spoke wheels in the 20's, but they might have started with wooden spoke wheels from what I heard. I've seen the K H stamping on late 80's Ford wheels, so they have been making wheels and other automotive stuff for a long time. Maybe someone with more knolledge than me, will chime in with more info. .

Re: wheel ID help.....
So.....the '42-'48 Fords had 16" and the Mercs had 15"?
It's been a long time and I kinda forgot! I have a pair of '50 Lincoln wheels (15" X 6") and they don't have the slots. They don't have the nubs either so I guess they only used full disc caps on the Lincolns? |

Re: wheel ID help.....
I didn't know 42-48 Mercs had 15" wheels.
Are not pre 66 (not 64 as I said earlier) half ton pickup 15" wheels then the same as 42-48 Merc?. I have a set here that look the same as the one in the pic, I was sold them as pickup wheels. Mart. |

Re: wheel ID help.....
I Know the '48 Merc used the 15" wheel as did the '49-'65 pickups. Not sure how Wide the '48 Merc wheel was, but the pickups ranged from 5" to 5.5" and even 6" wide were optional in '64 and '65.

Re: wheel ID help.....
mart- look at the lug holes on your rims. [iv'e been told ] if there is a raised area around each hole, they are '49 or later- if that area is flat- '48 or earlier.

Re: wheel ID help.....
Thanks for the tip - I checked the four wheels I recently bought, and they have no raised area around the lug hole. The style of the center is the same as my "forties" 16" steels on my roadster. I have one other wheel, that does have the raised lug holes, so I guess the one with the raised holes is a post 49 15"er pickup wheel, and the other four must be Merc wheels, pre 49.
Thanks again, it proves that you can learn something new every day. Mart. |

Re: wheel ID help.....
Not to hijack this thread but I have a 15" with 5.5" bolt pattern that's 5.5" wide and has inboard nubs for early style cap. Any ideas what it's for and where I could get a mate? Already have 5" wide pair. Please accept my apologies for asking on this thread. Thanks RPM
