Anyone , convert their 53/56 F-100 to the popular S-10 5 speed transmission , or any other modern transmission , If so what problems did you encounter, thank you.

The 1953 is a flathead and a lot depends on the type of bell housing is on there. The 54 thru 56 are Y-blocks but they also depend on the type of bell housing and clutch they have.

The bell housings were part of the rear engine/trans aft mounting set up. Mounting can be modified but it depends on how far a person wants to go and what transmission they want to use. Adapters have been made for some applications but not all.

I put a t5 in my 60 Ranchero With a 200 straight 6 and it is great. I discovered there are many gear ratios available In the t5’s so be sure you Do your research and get the proper gear ratio in the trans. Research could be time well spent.

Modern Drive Line Website is a great source of information.
