Default Not enough paint

I am in the process of painting my F1 truck and didn't put a thick enough coat of paint on the box sides. They have 2 coats of 2K urethane clear on them and I was wondering if I can sand this off and add more paint or is it best to use paint stripper and remove the clear and the paint and start over? I have a 2 part epoxy primer underneath the base coat. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I would sand the clear coat with 800 grit paper and then spray a mixture of 1/2 clear and 1/2 color this is what we do to help with color problems and to make the color consistant

I forgot to add that this is a metallic paint. Does this matter and if it doesn't do I mix it with the reducer 1 to 1 with the clear?

This is our process for Base coat clear coat ,its much like a touch up on a modern car when you are blending into the next panel ,your metelac base coat can be sprayed over the clear you just scotch brite rub it all over and take the gloss of, de grease then shoot with the base again ,then clear it again ,we don't use 800 or mix the clear and base like Allan does but both obviously work .

If it's dry enough to scuff, that's all I would do. I would never remove a smooth finish that has no other defects other than color. Paint right over after scuff & clean. You mention that it doesn't have a thick enough coat but no mention of color or surface irregularity. When I paint something, I rarely use more than three coats but then I use high solids acrylic or polyurethane single stage with no clear coat. If you are using a 2 stage and have one good color coat, the 2 coats of clear is getting there as far as coatings of coverage. Was your color tint not right or can you still see through the color?

If the clear is too soft and tries to rope when scuffing, that and time constraints can make it necessary to wet sand with finer paper. If you have the time, just let it set up hard so you can do a good scuff without roping and all those kinds of problems.

we do spray a clear coat on top of the 1/2 x 1/2. just did this on a dark blue/metallic on my 49 F-1, even on the bed sides as you.

To Clark ,On insurance work the colour match has to be spot on so if you start with laying down the base and top coating you have to stay with that ,
