Not enough paint
I am in the process of painting my F1 truck and didn't put a thick enough coat of paint on the box sides. They have 2 coats of 2K urethane clear on them and I was wondering if I can sand this off and add more paint or is it best to use paint stripper and remove the clear and the paint and start over? I have a 2 part epoxy primer underneath the base coat. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Not enough paint
I would sand the clear coat with 800 grit paper and then spray a mixture of 1/2 clear and 1/2 color this is what we do to help with color problems and to make the color consistant

Re: Not enough paint
I forgot to add that this is a metallic paint. Does this matter and if it doesn't do I mix it with the reducer 1 to 1 with the clear?

Re: Not enough paint
This is our process for Base coat clear coat ,its much like a touch up on a modern car when you are blending into the next panel ,your metelac base coat can be sprayed over the clear you just scotch brite rub it all over and take the gloss of, de grease then shoot with the base again ,then clear it again ,we don't use 800 or mix the clear and base like Allan does but both obviously work .

If the clear is too soft and tries to rope when scuffing, that and time constraints can make it necessary to wet sand with finer paper. If you have the time, just let it set up hard so you can do a good scuff without roping and all those kinds of problems. Last edited by rotorwrench; 08-09-2019 at 03:20 PM. |

Re: Not enough paint
we do spray a clear coat on top of the 1/2 x 1/2. just did this on a dark blue/metallic on my 49 F-1, even on the bed sides as you.

Re: Not enough paint
To Clark ,On insurance work the colour match has to be spot on so if you start with laying down the base and top coating you have to stay with that ,
