Rear Disc Brake Conversion

I would like to convert my rear brakes to Disc Brakes.

Is there a vendor that makes a rear disc brake conversion kit that utilizes the early V-8 (40-48) rear hubs?

I have looked into this and have found nothing. I believe this is something that you would have to design yourself.
I was tinkering with this idea, but I am not a fabricator of any type, so making the caliper bracket was out of my league. But I believe you can use the front rotors from a mid 90's F150 4X4. You might need to turn down the O.D. of the stock hub to fit inside the rotor. I have never tried this though.

Note that 60 to 70% of your braking power is by the front brakes. Lincoln self energizing drums on the back would be effective and much easier. You may get more feedback on the H.A.M.B. site.

This kit is available “Affordable” Street Rods, and is a copy of original Kinmont Brakes made in the early 50’s.

A matching front kit is also available.

Somewhat pricey, but very unique.

From the description(s) on Walden's site, those do not appear to be "COPIES" of "original" Kinmont brakes. They appear to be a similar-LOOKING representation of the early Kinmonts that only hide a disk brake rotor and caliper. That is nothing like the way original Kinmonts functioned. In other words...…….FAKE-OUT Kinmont wanna-be brakes. Like was said above, you'll never improve on actual braking results with the use of MT Products "Bendix"-type repro brakes on the rear, or on the fronts too, for that matter. And it's all top-quality, bolt-on and affordable! DD

This place will install user provided rear disc brakes if you let them convert your rear axle. The only problem is when I talked to them about it they couldn't tell me what worked. Still considering the rear axle conversion for my 41.

Just put MT Lincoln brakes at all 4 corners and you'll have good stopping power.

I agree with Krylon. I have them on the front of my 32 and near perfect 40's on the back of my 32 and the brakes are great.



Main advantage of disks is not fading after multiple concurrent high speed stops but I'm not driving my 32 in that manner! I do have disks on the front of my 40 and 56 Chevy drums on back with excellent shoes and a brake booster. These are also great brakes.
