Field Coil Winding Tape
Need to recover the field coils for my Powerhouse generator.
Does anyone have an outlet to get this winding tape? I found some but it is in the UK! Thanks. Pluck |

Re: Field Coil Winding Tape
Try -- aspwholesale.com ---
89-402 3/4wide, 36 yards, 20$ or so--- they should have bearings too, powerhouse brushes I would say no, starter brushes probably Probably others, first that came up that looks like proper tape |

Re: Field Coil Winding Tape
You might look at this;
McMaster-Carr 1/2 inch High-Strength Fiberglass Cloth Tape #7574A11 They might have wider tapes.

Re: Field Coil Winding Tape
The fiberglass tape won't conform to corners, it doesn't have any stretch, I have tried it, some other tapes are too thick---- there's some generators that I rebuilt in the 80s that I used strips of old sheet then painted with red insulating varnish---probably about 40 sold at Hershey in that era, I was making my own field coils

Romain electric in Kent Wa. But I think you have to have an account. I have a generator shop and have some original paper wrapping and some newer fiberglass style. I bought a large roll of the paper years ago, I'm sure it's still available.

Re: Field Coil Winding Tape
After wrapping I would use one of the insulating varnish's. It can be found in spray or paint on. I am only posting this as an example for anyone that does not know. There are other brands and sources;

Re: Field Coil Winding Tape
It seems that trying to use a Mac's or any other Eklers web site for a link just doesn't work. It always goes to a default link. Folks will have to use other vendors sights for links now.
The wrapping from this link looks pretty good. http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/powerhousearmature.htm The lower photo in the link is a well used example but I can detect a bias ply weave to that tape. It wouldn't matter what color since it will always end up black anyway and yes the use of insulating varnish will top it off. Glyptal is a good brand. |

Re: Field Coil Winding Tape
Thanks rotorwrench for the heads up. I change my link in the post to Grangers and checked to make sure it was what I wanted to show.
