Default Thermostat and housing

I'm installing a new thermostat on my 54 Lincoln Capri and there's some stuff in the housing that I don't know is supposed to be removed or not. Plus the new thermostat I got at Napa, which is guaranteed to fit, is too small. It'll drop into the intake manifold. So I need to know what I need to do. I'm attaching a pic of the thermostat and the stuff in the box. If anyone knows what piece goes where and if the housing needs to be empty let me know.

I can't help you too much here. But...?I asked on my facebook 57 page and someone mentioned a spacer for my Y block. Now, I know the Ford and Lincoln y Blocks were different just don't know how/why. I am guessing that the original thermostat might have been larger and they made this one to fit multiple engines? Thus the spacer and brass piece.

Yeah, I'm thinking I have to go to an old nos thermostat and avoid the size issue. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the old remnants of the original thermostat outta the housing. It seems to be glued in or something. Guess good old cranking on it with screwdriver and hammer. Just don't want to break the housing.

B-ster, what ever you do, don't crack your housing!!! When you put it back together, torque to 12 to 15 foot pounds! I was amazed how little it takes to get there!! And no leaks so far!!

Maybe soak the thermo housing in something like CLR (calcium lime rust) for a day or so to see if it will eat the rust and release the parts.

Check the t-stats used in FE engines through 64. The ones with the tank bolted to the intake.
