Weep at head studs
All knowing flat motor guys; Here is another "issue" with my fresh rebuild.( you guy's were great with the noisy valve (s) information )
I have Evans hig comp. alum. heads, they were "decked " and true. An upper rear ( toward firewall ) head stud on each side of the motor has a small "weep" of water. I know any is "too much", but typical maybe ? I was thinking a tube of that aluma-seal powder would do the trick, but it has not. Have not re-torqued any of the head bolts yet, I think run it for 20 or 30 minutes, get it hot an re-torque then ? Any thoughts, ideas or comments on the weep and re-tourqe is gladly accepted. Thanks in advance. Gary |

Re: Weep at head studs
Gary had a hard time getting the studs to seal on my last engine, finally used some sealer sort of what you used and still took a little time but it is sealed up now

Re: Weep at head studs
After you have re-torqued the heads and it is still leaking, put in a can of Aluma-Seal.
Re-torque the heads after it has sat overnight after you have brought the engine up to temperature. Continue to heat cycle and re-torque until all the nuts will hold torque. You may have to repeat the process several times, just be sure the engine is cold when you torque the heads. My opinion, Chris |

Re: Weep at head studs
I used GM sealer, comes in a small can, runny yellow sticky stuff. nary a single leak on two motors so far.. This is applied to the studs when you put them into the block, or the bolts if you use them. as for sealing a stud that leaks without pulling the heads, I think the aluma seal would be the easisest way. retorqueing a head nut on a stud alone wont help to seal the stud if you think about it. The coolant is actually winding its way up a loose fit thread.

Re: Weep at head studs
sealers are a last resort the flathead cooling system needs all the help it can get don,t clog it up with sealers the stud leak will stop on its own. which has all ready been said
