I think they all should spend more time working on cars and skip the drama

I agree, I'd like to see more of the workmanship details, but it's the
Drama that sells, just ask Jerry Springer....

Love em or hate em. I do like the fact that our old cars have been making a comeback. I love driving my 53, and love the reactions especially from the young generation. Cute exchange just the other day when I was at the local shell station with my 53. I was sitting in the driver seat waiting on my daughter. A woman and her young daughter came around to my window. The mother looked down at her daughter and told her, "Go ahead and ask him what you wanted to ask him..." The little girl looked up with a grin on her face and asked, "Is this Doc Hudson?" (from the movie "Cars"). I laughed, and even though I wish I had an old Hudson, but can understand the resemblance by a 5 year old girl. I replied, "No honey, this isn't Doc Hudson. This is Delores (my car's name). But she knows Doc Hudson. She used to date him a long time ago.. " The little girl giggled, and the mother smiled and they walked off. Thought that was really cool that even the youngest kids are appreciating the old iron these days..

All these "Car" shows are produced to a prescribed format for "reality programs". Most reality programs are anything but reality based... All the drama is fabricated to add interest (you can easily tell if a Producer knows about the subject "cars" or if he/she is just following the format). The shows are usually centered around, and carried by, the host. We all know that you can't build a car in a week, but when you have to produce programming under the constraints of the broadcast/cable networks, at best you can have 48 minutes of actual programming in an hour show. Add to that the "drama" and you have even less time to focus on cars... The programs are primarily made for general audience consumption, not for automotive enthusiast.

Chasing Classic cars is a hoax, one week he "sold" one of his cars at auction to Gerry who later prepared his car at Amelia Island, so in other words he scammed everyone that he sold the car when he really didn't. Its so phony that it is laughable. Being from Connecticut I know most of the players in the show and they either work for him or the producers. As in most of these so called car shows these guys give up all artistic control of their shows and it clearly shows. Most of these are made for the consumption of the general public and certainly not car guys. Chalk it up to Hollywood bull "you know what."

I had no idea that this was going on. I guess when you get caught, you have two choices : man up or go half way around the world and try again.

The wording of the ad itself is a treasure; thanks for posting it.

My favorite car show was the one where they would "steal" the guy's car, but, actually re-build it for him. I can't think of the name right now. I have CRS. At the end, they would tell him that they had found it and bring him in to identify the car, to see if they had recovered the correct car. Chip Foose was in it. He did the designing.
I don't think any of it was fake. It was a good show.
Now, what was the name of that ?

i don't mind a little invented drama on CCC. Wayne is a nice guy, talked to my grandson and me when we visited. we saw cars in the showroom that we recognized from the show. he told me when one of his trucks would be auctioned. also, he doesn't always make money on the cars, seems real enough for me. like the old guy that works on the cars too. can't stand the childish antics on GYCars. i like the car part of it (not many mopar shows). would prefer more car talk, less fluff. Americarna is good. texas car wars, ugh. desert vally: come on, get a car all done and find a frame crack?

Chasing Classic cars is ok. Wayne just goes to auctions. I like his mechanic Roger because he's knows what he is doing and has a sense of humor.

Gas Monkey does show a lot of working on cars thanks to Aaron. I think the rest of the crew screws off too much.

Wheeler dealers is an okay show but not fond of the host but do like his mechanic who is a down to earth kind of guy.

Backroad's Gold sucks. He finds a car and gets it for a certain price and then says "I bought the car for $10K and added $5k to it and it should sell for x"

I do like to record these shows as I can zoom through the commericals and BS.

Waterboychuck, sounds like a similar show I watch that just came out last season called the American Car Prospector I believe he's in Colorado searching for cars, and usually adds $3000 - $5000 after purchase price and says he sell them out of the country to clients looking for said type of classic cars.

Look at this TV thing another way.
I had one channel in the early 50's.
I loved cars even then.
First car chase I saw was Brodrick Crawford in "Highway Patrol"
10-4, 21-50, they said over the radio.
When we got 3 channels later 58-59 i think.
you got to see some car "action".
For example Lumpy on "Leave it to Beaver" drove an awesome 40 Ford coupe.
Rick Nelson had a later famous 31 Ford roadster.
And then Kookie Burns T bucket
, 77 Sunset Strip
I grew up car crazy in the early days of TV Because I saw it there, then bought the magazines and built the Models and finally bought my first car at about 12 years old with pal Jerry for $30.
I never stopped.
This cycle continues. Now there's lots to watch and dream about.
And there's so much more out there on the "interweb" as "Gas Monkey' calls it.
Just think of it as more cars discovered, more to play with buy work on and sell to other enthusiasts, and more fun people to talk about it with.
Just my $.02

My Classic Car. I don't worry about whether it's fake or not even though anything with a producer and director has the opportunity.

I like watching Chasing Classic Cars, What's My Car Worth and Americarna. I find them educational.

YUP ! Thank you ! That was it ! "OVERHAULED".
I don't think that any of the drama was made up. If it was, it sure fooled me.
That was a first class car show. Nothing has come as close to being honest as that one.

I believe that "Gas Monkeys", (FAST & LOUD) is mostly contrived. The host is really full of himself and his side kick is in love with his own "Duck Dynasty" beard.

Can't believe no-one's mentioned Top Gear. Originally a BBC UK franchise that first aired about 10 years ago, and has run every season since. Got 3 "funny guys" out front. Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond. Our UK Barners will know this one well!

Absolutely NOT to be taken seriously, but good for a laugh or two. Mostly very high-end European cars interspersed with a bunch of unbelievably crazy stunts, and some decidedly wacky British humour. The show has spawned an Australian and US offshoot for the last couple seasons. Low-rent entertainment, but what isn't now-days? One great thing about this show... The wife HATES it!

Yes. My Woodie happen to be in Ron Heiden's shop when the TV crew was filming. I wasn't aware of it until my wife and I were watching the show.
