Default Idle RPM

Is there a good idle rpm range? I have a clamp-on tach to check.

I've never had a tach. on my '31 so I do not know.
I set it where I can hear the individual cylinders firing so I am
guessing 400 RPM more or less......

Since I have never had a tach on mine, I just adjust the idle screw til it quits and back it out ½ turn.

I reckon that anything less than 500rpm is within OK range. After a rebuilding of a carb I generally get them happy at 390-450 rpm but all cars are different

I adjust to walking speed in first gear at idle -with 1/3 advasnce--this way I don't have to ride the cltch when doing a parade, fine speed adjustment for speed is the spark advance---don't know the rpm, probably 350-400

Curious. What do you use for a tach?

You can use a digital tach that has a RPM scale. Not sure if they work on 6 V. but almost everybody has a jump box that will power it.

I have a hand held " EZ Tach Digital" powered by a 9v battery. Works great on 2 or 4 stroke cycles, cars, etc. Not sure though how it will work on the A leads from distrib to plugs with auto advance FS ignition...

cheapo tachos available via ebay . They work by having their pickup wire adjacent to HT lead. Does not look period as digital and plastic but reasonably accurate against an old analogue ( do you guys spell it analog?) one. Unless their both wrong of course.?

Good grief! I meant to say "digital timing light".
