That's quite a selection of engines. What's with last picture of the 40's? I never knew that they had aluminum heads in 1940.

"Kube", I see a "Judson Electronic Supercharger" in one of the pictures. I have one of those I got at a garage sale years ago. I thought it was interesting because of the "real" Judson Superchargers. I think it's just an ignition coil with a fancy name; is that a correct assumption?

The aluminum high compression heads in 1940 are super rare as you can imagine. These were NOS and installed on the most recent '40 convertible I'd restored.
The "Judson"... you know WAYYYYY more than I do. That's on a '36 cabriolet I pulled out of a garage not far from here about five years ago. Most guys would say this was a "barn find". It wasn't. Just an old cabriolet that the owner was going to restore... for the past 30+ years. He passed away, I bought the car.

I did a little "Googling", and I see I even got the name wrong. It is "Judson Electronic Magneto. I also found this data sheet. From the looks of it, and the fact they they say you have to retain the condenser tells me that this is just a fancy coil. I guess this Judson was popular for high performance parts for VW's.

Looks cool, though.

I believe Kube can be a comedian at times....."trailer queens", eh? Even though these cars all end-up living "pampered" existences, I'm pretty sure they leave Kube's shop well able to chug-on down the road just fine. This is an interesting (to me) set of pictures that Mike has posted here. I've never had the pleasure of meeting Mike, but his dedication to doing his restorations so authentically, and the fact that his workmanship is second to none has had me engrossed by what he does for quite a few years. I've paid strict attention to what he has to say, and have picked-up on many points of interest and detail about Mike and what he does. Some good stuff, for sure. One thing I find interesting is that you (I) can tell a Kube restoration apart from other "nicely-done" cars. I BELIEVE that some of the engines/cars that we see here-in are client cars (I could be wrong) that Mike probably does occasional work on. My main point of this post looks at a common mistake made by guys wanting authentic looking parts on their cars. You'll notice several of the engines pictured have that gaudy-looking orange painted Ford script et al smeared on the top radiator hoses. You won't find that orange verbiage on the hoses of a "Kube restoration", with I THINK one exception. It will be interesting to hear from Mr. Kube later on as to whether I'm even close on any of this. DD

I BELIEVE this is the very first '40 convertible Mike ever restored, likely back in the '90s. This, I believe, is the ONE exception with orange verbiage on the hoses, likely before Mike got this resto stuff down to a science.

I believe this Lyon Blue coupe to be the one in Mike's avatar picture....NO ORANGE on hoses! I get the feeling that this is probably one of Mike's favorites, as I've heard that he has sold, and re-purchased this coupe more than once.

We all remember this gorgeous little pick-up that Mike did not too long ago. NO ORANGE on hoses!

I believe this is a black coupe that Mike did for a Texas client a few years back.....NO ORANGE B/S on the hoses!

I believe this last one is the last of the two gorgeous blue convertibles that I remember Mike doing THIS century. This one I believe had the documented factory "gee whiz" engine ordered by either a police chief or a fire chief. Again, NO ORANGE on hoses. So, don't let that "fake-out" orange Ford script fool you. The way I understand it, the orange only came on REPLACEMENT hoses....not original-build hoses. But what do I know?

V8Coopman, You are correct on all counts. Well, except your guess on the gray convertible I did that first in the early 80's, then again in the early 90's. Lord, I've learned a LOT since then!
You are very perceptive indeed. Something I picked up in your posts many years ago.

Just a little FYI for those so interested re the hoses... the upper hoses in 1939 had internal bracing... NOTHING on the outside as the '40 did.

It´s a electronic ignition setup in there that´s why they need to be grounded.
I have a couple here to...the ones fitting an early ford should have POS GRD printed to one of the cooling fins.

Kube your cars are pure eye candy !!!

I have the utmost respect for you guys that ride around with a 21 stud/waterpump in head original engine. You are old school and that requires a lot of knowledge. More power to you!
