Re: 37 Coupe
My post did disappear and I don’t know why. Maybe deleted by the administrators cause it wasn’t posted on the proper place. I don’t have enough posts to pm or reply to pms or post I’m certain areas of the forum. I am interested in the 37 windshield frame. If Blucar can pm me with your phone number or email I’ll reach out about the windshield frame.
Thanks for all the kind word about my 37. I don’t care much for a club coupe and a 36 is probably one of my favorites but this little coupe is way to cool in my opinion. |

Re: 37 Coupe
I have never really understood why the '37-38 Fords were considered to be ugly ducklings, but they were. I can clearly remember a one owner, unmolested '37 coupe that was hauled to the local wrecking yard in 1963 because no body wanted it. I followed it to the wrecking yard. I was able to harvest the bumpers, radio and all of the original owners manual and all of the paper work that came with the car when new.
It could be that the Bug-eyed headlights and big smiley grille, which was similar to the Zephyrs, was more than most people could handle. Fords V8 60 was also not accepted very well by the buying public.

Re: 37 Coupe
I never understood why they were considered ugly. Personally. I love the front end. Sort of an"art deco" look to me. Now, some folks consider the '38 Deluxe/'39 Standard to be the ugly duckling. I don't think any of them are ugly! God only knows how many '37-'38 coupes & 2dr sedans were chopped up for early stock car & Jalopy racing back in the 50's & 60's. It's a wonder there are as many left as there are! - F f

It is very simple why so many '37-38 Ford coupes were so popular on the stock car tracts.. Price! They were plentiful and cheap. I paid $125. for my '36 Delux coupe with 51.k on the odometer. in '52 I had a '36 standard 5 win bought for $50., that I let a friend have because oil was dripping out of the tailpipe. I had a '37 coupe for a while in '54-55 that had been given to me because the engine was dead. The car had alternated between the stock car tract and the drag strip. On several occasions I pulled the full race 59-AB engine out of my 36, put it in the 37 coupe and took it to the local drag strip on Saturday. Had to put the engine back into my coupe on Sunday so I could drive it to work on Monday... The wild and crazy days of my youth.

You have a cool looking car there. It has a lot to do what you do to fix it up and present it. I like them all and they all have a story to tell. Going to car shows, the ones I like best have some piece of period history to share or accessories from the day like luggage, a cooler, road maps, whatever. Even if you don't have the history for that particular car, it's not hard to look up general 1937 history. My own '41 has been called an ugly duckling but that's fine with me. The longer I have it, the more I like it. I had big plans to make some mods when I bought it, but now, taking it real slow I've decided to do my best to keep it period correct. Not a 1000 point correct car but at least something that looks right for the 1940's. Enjoy! It has real style. |
