39 Pickup Cab Floor
I’m still gathering items for this winters build. I found the kick panel/pedal board piece. I have wood for the under foot area, as I believe the original was.
I’m looking for a photo of the trans tunnel/hump/cover. I’ve seen conflicting designs out there. Most trucks have a mat or carpet, and I just want a decent example to go from. If someone would please share a photo of the floor/tunnel area I would really be grateful. If someone has one for sale I’d be even more grateful! Thanks in advance.

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
I think this picture is of an original mat but I do not know for sure. I am pretty sure that the rubber cover should not be over the shift tower. Below is a mat that is being reproduced but you have to cut your own holes. When I made mine I just used rubber floor mat stock and think it turned out pretty nice. Kind of beat up now though...

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
This is a '40 but I'm quite certain the '39 mat is identical. This, if it matters, is concourse correct.

I should have specified the metal hump itself is what I’m after. I have the toe panel section and the floor board. Just no trans hump or the firewall cover.

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
On a 38 they would have been wood, believe 39 too. That is pictures from kube (mikes) 40 truck build that people share.
I can take a picture of the part you are asking about, but I would have to pull my matte out. I'll look if I have a before picture. The trans cover is really squareish. Not very rounded on the the outer lip. Last edited by Tinker; 08-17-2021 at 10:33 PM. |

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
The photos I've posted are of a '40 I'd restored. I think, but do not know for certain, that '39 was identical to my '40. I'm hoping a '39 expert will weigh in here.

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
Thank you both. I’m just trying to find the correct type cover the first time.
I may put 40 floors in it. Those look great!

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
I'm not an expert. But 39s had wood floors. Not saying you can't make a metal one.
It's the same thing with the roof on the 37. Ford was able to punch out sheet metal roofs in one piece. No need to do them in two parts and use a wood insert. Trucks were always the last to get anything new. Luckily they had short roofs. https://www.earlyfordv8.org/forum/pr...m=18&Topic=440 Last edited by Tinker; 08-17-2021 at 10:30 PM. |

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
Here are a few pics of the floorboards and transmission cover from my '39 parts pickup. My driver has a plywood replacement for the wood so it would only be useful for a pattern. The metal transmission cover is the same for '38 & 39 but the '38's had an extra hole that the parking brake went through. For '39 The hole has a patch tack welded in or it is a knockout. Never been able to tell which. I have seen may like that so am pretty sure its original.

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
Great pictures. I replaced mine with 5/8 cabinet plywood. Thank you. I will save this.
38 trucks didn't have a parking break lever like the 36 cars or others. it had a dash mounted lever like a 39. The hole might have been present though. Last edited by Tinker; 08-18-2021 at 01:00 AM. |

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
I have seen a '38 pickup with the dash mounted brake lever, but Mack Hil's book also shows them on the floor. My guess is that it was a running change from floor mount to dash mount at some point in the production year.

Re: 39 Pickup Cab Floor
The "Big" trucks had a floor mounted E brake, the 1/2T's brake lever is mounted under the dash. The trans covers are hard to come by as the were under the floor mat and subject to rust. I see that Third Gen Auto carries repops.
