32 3w coupe dash
I looked for the thread on a 3w coupe dash mounting but can't find. I would like to know what secures the dash to the cowl behind the windshield and where can I find those pieces. Thanks for any help!

Re: 32 3w coupe dash
There are 5-6 countersunk screw holes behind the windshield frame on the cowl/windshield lip. the screws are machine screws that fasten into bars that hang behind the dash and basically cinch the dash to the cowl. I made my own out of 3/16 stock 1/2" wide and 2-1/2" long..I tapped them 10-24 just high of center. Its basically a bar that acts as a nut.
If you look at the back of the dash you should be able to vision what I am talking about. Maybe someone else has pictures of the real factory fastener.. this is just what I did.. Also I ran a sticky backed piece of weather stripping 3/4" wide along the top edge of cowl the seal the area.. there was some sort of cloth originally I believe.. Tom |

Re: 32 3w coupe dash
This is what the original clips look like:
My coupe only had 3 of these, so I made some very simple brackets and they worked just fine, see the attached pics. The screw hole is in the center, the pictures show a piece of raw material that has not yet been cut into individual brackets, the portion of the piece shown would make three brackets. They would be cut off midway between the bolt holes, overall length of each is 1 7/8". The material is 1/4" by 1/2" aluminum. The screw holes are 8-32, if I remember correctly. The countersink in the material is for clearance for the countersunk-head screw so that it won't bottom out on the aluminum when tightening up to draw the ears up against the body, serves the same purpose that the step in the original bracket does but much easier to make on a drill press. Hope this makes sense! |
