Default fuel filter

I am new to this and recently purchased a 1934 pickup with a V8. The fuel pump does not have a sediment bowl. Does anyone use a fuel filter? Do you put it before the fuel pump?

I have a metal can type just before my fuel pump, don’t use plastic(if it melts you’ll be adding more fuel to the fire so to speak).

I use a filter like this one: Ebay #293073639325 It is made out of glass and metal - no plastic and is available in various end diameters....1/4, 5/16, 3/8.

I used to use a Wix filter similar to the one referred to on my '39 p/u but after a while it started to leak where the glass tube threaded onto to the metal end fittings. It was an engine fire waiting to happen. Now a run the typical metal can filter. I liked the Wix unit since it was clear and the internal filter was replaceable but the leak issue was a deal killer.

I used to use the filter shown by anteek29, they have a very coarse screen inside and still allow lots of small stuff to pass thru. I switched to a plain inline paper element type at the parts store

I use NAPA 3033. Metal can type. I have one coming out of the tank before the electric pull thru pump and one just before the carb. I know.....over kill you say.

Talk about overkill, I used a small spin on from a mercruser boat. Small unit, mounted on the X member midway from tank to pump, at the lowest point, easy to change, on my 34 jalopy

I will add, that ebay item above is nice that it unscrews so you can clean it, its glass so you can see the crud, but mine was on a car with known slight rust issues in the tank. I would clean it about 3 times a year, but about once a year it would run poorly, and when I looked in the carb bowl it would have very fine mud in the bottom. This was on a model A, easy job to pull the carb and blow it out once a year or so, but the filter was not fine enough to get the small stuff that eventually will cause a problem if you have a mild rust issue like me. this car gets driven...alot, not rust from non-use

If you decide to use a glass filter make a protective cover for it.
