I don't know why you issued a Warning. A person can ask whatever they want out of a part. Sometimes when I try to sell a part that I can not find a ballpark figure out of what it is worth I will post it with a high number and see if I get counteroffers. Sometimes I do, other times I don't. Beats giving it away for half as much of what it is worth. Rod

Rowdy, if this works for you, have at it. I usually have an idea what a fair price for a part is. Sometimes I get surprised. The problem with this guy, as I see it, is that even if I agreed to pay $200 for the dip stick, I'm not sure I would ever receive it. Obviously the guy on the FE forum felt the same way. Have you looked at that link? I'm not willing to take a chance at those prices.

Howard, you invited us to your thread and we participated. Nobody seems to have ruffled feathers but yourself, and it appears that it was I who riled you up. That you misunderstood my intent, I apologize, and I do thank you for your intent to which I initially disregarded. We do agree about the man's character, and you did right to focus our attention on his manner of doing business.

In my last post to this thread I'll share a happy ending. Through all of this, a couple of guys noticed that I was looking for a specific dipstick. I got together with one and I have a stick coming for the Mercury pan I'm using for my 8BA to '37 project.
Thanks to all, it's good to be associated with ladies and gentlemen.

Acording to C&G Ford's web site they have the dipstick listed unless there is something different about yours http://cgfordparts.com/ufolder/cgcat...mber=01A-15122

Dec, If C&G is selling 1 stick for all three applications, I think they are wrong! These applications used at least two different sticks ( I believe three), in stock form. The Mercury stick PN is 8CM-6750-B. When I did my original search, C&Gs ad did come up. I have found the right stick and it's on its way. All help is appreciated. Thanks,
Howard

No, I didnt look at the other website. I prefer not to spend the time I spend on Fordbarn bouncing from one website to another.

Also with over 12,000 parts, NOS, NORS and used it is hard for me to know what everything is worth. That is why most of it ends up on e-bay, started at rock bottom of what I know it is worth. Some of it sells, some of it don't. In the next few months I will likely list about 500 more parts. Rod

Alan, the word "help" was a paraphrase of your " these listings do serve to drive the market for other legitimate offers". As I said, I don't agree.
Alan, I read Mike's post and his use of the word "crook" was in reference to a gentleman with the same name as the subject of this thread. He in no way, called a salesman a crook. Talk about putting words into someone's mouth!
Charlie Stephens: The quote I got from a legitimate vender was $20 and that's what I offered when asked "what are you willing to pay". That was the end of our communication.
All in all, for those who took offense to this thread, tough! I had no intention of discussing the salesman's vocation and although I may have misinterpreted some verbage I haven't changed my mind as to its intent.
I will not make this same kind of mistake again!
Thanks to those who offered to help with the mission that started this. I'll be in touch.

Castiron, all the tubes are NOT the same length. I have both an 8BA tube and two for the Mercury pan. The 8BA measures 8-1/2" including threaded end. The Merc. tubes measure 10-11/16" including threads. These measurements were done with an old wooden carpenters ruler so a variation of =- 1/16" is possible. FoMoCo may have used other lengths but these are the only two I have to measure. Hope this helps.
Howard

P.S. I'd like to suggest that any more discussions directly related to dip sticks, tubes and oil pans be discussed on a new thread. I'll be glad to help where I can.
Howard

Simple solution, if you post something wanted here don't buy from someone who isn't a member. Member to member issues can be simple, member to random person issues not so much.

If you think that dipstick price was high, then check out the model a wishbone listed.

================================================== ===

He has offered that wishbone Several Times for $200 each time, so he
obviously made a price error this time.

Hi Bill,
Mr. Johnson's email address is in my first post if you want the dipstick. I'll bet it's still available.

Just kidding,

Dennis Carpenter had a variety of NOS and used dipsticks in their NOS department. It would not hurt to give them a call and see if they have what you need.
