Default '36 glovebox lock

Got a slight issue upon assembly of the 36 dash. I had bought a '36 glovebox door handle but only realized when assembling that the door is setup for what looks like a lock.

Did some searches but cannot find a complete '36 glovebox lock assembly. Does anyone sell these?

I believe they were actually 37's, but they may work on a 35-36 glove box door if you are not concerned about being show correct.

36 doesn't have the grooves in the handle.

The cc between the holes is not the same on 37.

Thanks all, I am guessing it was an option as most '36 doors I see have the friction handle/latch.

The '37 lock/handle should be fine. The dash is in a '30 so I dont expect Pebble Beach Concours D'elegance to come knocking any time soon. Even if the hole measurements are not identical I am sure I can make it work.

Found them on eBay at $200 each...

What are the actual center to center measurement differences between '37 and '35-'36?

When I changed from the pullhandle to a 37 lock the holes did not align. As I remember the lock was wider, not much but enough.Maybe the holes for the pullhandle is different from a 36 lock too??

As mentioned above, the gauge distance between mounting screws is different. The '35-'36 distance is 1 1/4 inch and the '37 is 1 3/8. The holes on the '35-'36 could be elongated without creating a problem as the handle covers any change in gauge. The '37 lock/handle assembly is much more plentiful than the '35-'36 (and the less expensive option). What condition do you require?

Thanks for the info on the holes. Yes, I think elongating the existing holes wont be an issue.

I picked up this NOS '37 item which will work well.

Along this same line, can someone tell me what kind of clip (Hurd E clip) holds the cylinder in the lock housing on the 36 ? A horse shoe clip does not work as there is a grove in the top of the cylinder but not down the sides to lock it in. Tried making a clip and it would not hold lock stationary in the knob.
thanks
Larry

The special retainer for holding the lock cylinder in place looks like the inclosed pictures. It is about an eighth of an inch wide. Made of spring steel. Do not think it is being reproduced. If anyone knows of a source, please post it.

These guys could probably do them. http://www.nwspring.com/. We have used them several times over the years and they are a quality outfit.

You helped me Immensely, thanks so much! I am usually pretty good at disassembly and bagging up stuff but I had mixed the clip in with a bunch of switch parts off the on/off column support. Found it from your taking the time to send me a photo and I thank you!
