Re: Found this in the oil pan UPDATE
The clip found in the oil pan looks like the type of wire fastener used to attach hoses. The two points of a needle nose pliers are used to twist the clip around the hose.

Re: Found this in the oil pan UPDATE
I’m pretty sure it’s a wrist pin lock. I bought a V8 that was knocking after a rebuild, and the builder told the owner” it’s not a Lexus” so he drove it from Washington to Arizona and back. I bought the block and and had the gouged cylinder sleeved. Wrist pin clip had fallen out.

Re: Found this in the oil pan UPDATE
I have a car that when restored received its first rebore. One of those clips wasn't fitted properly and the bore was scored. Within a short distance, that motor had its second rebore. By the time I bought the car, it had done a lot of work an d the motor had been tarted up for the sale. Pistons were expanded, oversized gudgeons fitted, new rings, valve job etc. When I stripped it for a decent rebuild (its third), I found there were no clips like those at all. All cylinders were fitted with a nylon plug at each end of the gudgeon. I guess they were taking no chances when they repaired the damage from the first so called rebuild.
That clip sure looks like a gudgeon clip to me.

"In internal combustion engines, the gudgeon pin (UK, wrist pin or piston pin US) connects the piston to the connecting rod, and provides a bearing for the connecting rod to pivot upon as the piston moves.[1] In very early engine designs, including those driven by steam, and many very large stationary or marine engines, the gudgeon pin is located in a sliding crosshead that connects to the piston via a rod. A gudgeon is a pivot or journal. The origin of the word gudgeon is the Middle English word gojoun, which originated from the Middle French word goujon. Its first known use was in the 15th century." I am not holding a gudgeon against anyone here. We all have rights to our opintlen. No one needs to be a crosshead.

Re: Found this in the oil pan UPDATE
Working folks in the US rarely get "Government Holidays" off. This is why we refer to them as government holidays since government workers are the only ones that get those days off.
There are a lot of different terms used by Commonwealth countries that never quite made it to the mainstream US unless more folks here fancy British cars and motorcycles. Once a person owns a few and has the manuals for them then most terms become apparent. |
