What MC do I have

I pulled my original MC off of my 57 station wagon and cannot find a replacement. Everyone I look at or see has a bolt pattern spacing of 2". I need on that has 1 7/8", I have manual brakes. I just don't want to have to punch two more holes in the firewall that already has way to many holes in it.

Without seeing the whole thing that somewhat also resembles 58 to 61 Chevy car.

If it is manual brakes the bore is probably 1". If power brakes it may have 1 1/8 bore.

I have a 57 convertible that had manual brakes (converted to power) and a 57 retractable that did as well. Both have a horizontal mount bolt spacing of over 3 inches center to center where it mounts on the firewall. Are you measuring something else?

Can't be 2 inches, your MC bore is at least 7/8" and from the pic your bolt holes are around an inch outboard of the outer edges of bore. So looks closer to 3 inches like mine..

You must mean vertically between the mount holes. Both of mine measure 2" there...

Sure you didn't measure inside edges of the firewall holes vertically instead of on center? That would get you about 1 7/8"...

Sorry, I measured vertically. At the T Bird store someone mentioned they remember seeing an oddball MC on 54/55 fairlane. If I have to replace it, then I have to replace the support brace as well. So I may just go with a dual MC and replumb the brake lines at the MC. I am running manual drums all around.

To my knowledge Raybestos MC18000 master fit many year ford including 54-59 and more. It has a 1" bore. Is it rebuildable? What's the chance one of your mounting studs has a slight tweak? I wouldn't think that even Ford would use the same cylinder for many consecutive years and suddenly throw an odd ball in the mix.

IDK... I have the identical one here and a power brake rebuilt 1 1/8 bore MC unit as well that came from Kanter. Both these do have the 1 7/8 center to center vertical bolt holes though, just like yours. I would think those are as common as grass, but maybe the supply has dried up since most go to a 2 bolt dual MC anyway.

I would just go dual MC, but if you want to stick with the original I would think Kanter or Mac's could still fix you up. Or kit yours.. Worst case that kit should still be available. I have one here still in a box (Kanter also) for a 7/8" bore but it may be older than my dog now..

I have a bunch of 57 and 58 stuff, including multiple brake hanger brackets and they are all identical.

Sid may be on to something cuz we are talking 1/16" difference per hole (.0625) and those brackets are not exactly square on the end, plus the holes are likely oversize to begin with to allow for a bit of parts fitment flexibility.

I would bet any MC from a reputable supplier that says it fits 57-58 as original will fit.

I will try Kantors tomorrow. According to one of the vendors the 2" version is 52-59 and mine is 57-59. I would rebuild mine but it needs to be bored out a smidge and I can't do that. I will try to find a local shop that will do it if not, Kantors it is. Boy I hate having a unique item at times....I will eventually go PB with disk up front but it just isn't in the cards right now.

Generally a power brake equipped system will have a slightly larger bore. I have a couple 56 parts cars and going to check those masters for their bolt spacing. I'm just wondering if You may have a Canadian built car?

Just FYI -

FOMOCO call for one MC for 1955/56 and another for 1957/59.

There are two for 1957, MB (1") and PB (1 1/8").

Do not trust aftermarket vendors. Only GOD knows what they will pass off. Your best bet (IMO) is to have yours sleeved and professionally rebuilt. DO NOT trade that one in as a core. It will be worth something to somebody.

CARDONE advertises one MC for 1955/59. I don't think so.

From the looks of that piston, the entire system needs to be flushed and the wheels cylinders done also.

I think the key is to look for the casting # on yours (AJ2155A). There are a couple used ones on evilbay and one seller happened to lay a tape across the vert. bolts and it is less then 2". Another seller said his came from a 58 Skyliner. Here is the ebay link to the one.
For some reason the Ford calls for a part number B7A 2140 but then there is your casting number. I'm just wondering if it may be a Canada master? Kultulz is correct.
Cardone and Rock auto are wrong. I checked vertical bolts on a 56 and they are at least 2 1/4 center to center.
I checked the Hollander. Master is # 114. Applications should be as follows
58 Edsel Ranger and Pacer
59 Edsel
57-59 Ford pass. and s.d. except T Bird
1957 Lincoln.
These are all w/o power brakes.

My car was built in Norfolk, VA in June of 57. Maybe it , ah who knows. Ford did some weird stuff back in those days. My Model A has one off splash aprons and fenders that made for only Like three months before reverting back to the previous version.

I will try and find a shop to sleeve this one or buy a rebuilt and keep mine. And yes K the whole system is getting replaced. This car was beat up really badly and I don’t trust nuthin on her.

That's only about 1,000 miles to the Ford plant in Ontario so who knows. I picked up a 55 in Oregon that was from Ontario. Yours seems to have a different casting number but there seems to be a couple others out there. The AJ2155 vs the 2140.

Update, my local NAPA was able to track down a MC for me that matches.
