At the front of the torque tube, right behind the speedo gear attachment spot is the boss for the radius rods to bolt to, the left side of this picture.

If it is an early car you might be looking at the sockets for the split brake cross shaft....I don't have a picture....but I'll look for one...

I have all the parts you need to hook to the sockets. I just removed them from my car. Call Don in Visalia California at 559 786 0678.

thanks to all who replied-i should have mentioned that the 1928 engine number is A187552*-if this makes it a late model , the cross shaft would not be split and the part wouldnot be missing? also , i couldnt find a picture of a split cross shaft but the word split probably means the shaft went from the socket medially to a bushing laterally on the frame, both driver and passenger side? i also guess that after the split shaft was discontinued, ford had some left over ball sockets and used them up even tho the sockets were not used.

Your's is fairly early, as my 28 has an engine number A404378 and tank date 9-27-28.

My car also has the split brake linkage, as the single bar didn't start until November 1928.

If the car is a late 28 and is fitted with a full width brake cross shaft you can choose to ignore the universal ball cap and leave it as is. No harm will come of it. It may be as simple as someone fitting an incorrect ball cap over the years. Finding a correct late 28 ball cap should be quite easy if you wish to bring it back to original.
If you are going for a points restoration and it is in fact an early 28 then yes, you will have to find the correct two piece cross shafts, a dog bone connector etc.
The early 28 used only one brake shoe in the rear hubs. The service brake and the emergency brake both operated the same brake shoe.
