Default 1939 Deluxe head bolts

Ok - I know my 39 has bolts securing the head and that is not the way the car was built in 39 - that said........

My question is - under the green paint, it appears like the bolts are brass. Can that be?

Either that or they are 14k gold bolts and Im a little richer today.

Are they the gold/bronze grade 8 bolts? I'd tell you you need studs, but then some other on here (Ron) would disagree!

Grade 5s are greenish, grade 8s are gold.

They seem to work fine - no leaks so they will remain as is... Gold bronze grade 5 is that what would have been used? All I can say is where there's no paint, I see bronze / gold bolt

Take a look at a hardware store and see if the look similar and I corrected the post, should have been grade 8!

I am guessing the bolts used on your '39 were taken from a later Ford engine and simply installed and painted over. That would explain the "gold".

Most likely yellow cadmium plating.......not un-common on bolts. How many radial marks or lines are on the bolt heads? DD

That would be a grade 5 bolt.
