1930 Model AA- What is it?
Is there history of Model AA’s being made into grain trucks?
I have heard mention of it other posts. Is this a model that was offered, a “normal” mod that was made, or am I seeing a one off? Here is a pic of the ol’ grain truck on the farm. It hasn’t been used in many years and has been collecting dust in a corner of an outbuilding. It has been stored indoors its entire life. Besides needing a lot of work, it is mostly complete and was running when put away. The biggest issue with it is the back wall of the cab is completely cut away. There is a makeshift back wall made from tongue and groove boards. I don’t have a great picture of the back wall but you can see how it has been shortened. Is that to fit the box or an old hack job? I am looking for any information people may have. Thanks in advance. |

Probably had a load shift and a farmer fix for repair.

That is not a truck cab, it is some other body type that has been cut off and used.
This link shows a Ford grain truck. http://aafords.com/open-bodies/grain-bodies/ Bob |

I love it the way it is. If it were mine, I'd get it running, do whatever mechanical repairs needed to make it safe and then drive it & have fun. I love the things in my life that remind me of how my father, grandfather & father-in-law got things done and made do with what they had.

The radiator shell and headlamps are automobile. Your cab is an automobile body cut off to fit the truck. It probably had a major accident at some time in its life and received a Farmer Fix.

Keep it.
Fix the safety areas and drive it thinking about Gramps. Leave the body. Maybe a neighbor or friend will remember the story |

It appears to have been a coupe.

yea car body on AA frame. Many possibilities as to why. Ford did have grain box sides for thier platform beds and id say it would be safe to assume a huge ammount of AA's were grain or lifestock haulers.

That is my plan at this point. Make it drivable and dress up what I can while leaving the story in place. To me the story, that you all have helped me with, is the real value here. How and why this AA ended up like this will be a conversation starter that allows me to tell stories of how resourceful my grandpa was as well as many others from that era. It is amazing to me and something that I hope is never forgotten. |

Re: 1930 Model AA- What is it?
You can see an indented area with rounded corners behind the door. I'd guess the cab is a cutoff A (as opposed to AA) delivery body.
A friend had a 29 AA with a regular truck cab and a grain body similar to the one in the OP. The bed was aftermarket with a hand-cranked dump - pretty neat. |

Cool truck! Looks like the body is a cut down coupe or tudor.

Re: 1930 Model AA- What is it?
It has been bugging me what the cab of this truck is made from. Is it a panel cab cut down or is it the original cab with the back cut off for some reason? I finally got a chance to get a picture of the tag, not much help. The search for an answer goes on...
Any suggestions on a way to clean it and if it may be able to be read? 57E9A6B9-0EC0-443A-AFB5-985CEAC07F43.jpg |

Re: 1930 Model AA- What is it?
I'd say it was cut down from either a coupe or sedan body.A measurement of the door length, front to rear, would help narrow that down.

Re: 1930 Model AA- What is it?
The tag is a patent plate. It was used on all Model A cars and trucks. It has no information that would tell what type of vehicle it was.

Re: 1930 Model AA- What is it?
I was not fast enough on the patent plate.
Trucks and Tudors shared the same cowl and doors so it looks like a tudor cut off. |

Re: 1930 Model AA- What is it?
The center pic shows the cut to be in the window area if it was a tudor so unless somebody put in a piece of wood or sheet metal, that looks like a cut down sedan delivery.
