A few questions:
1) What holds the seat back cushion in a 29RPU?
2) What is the purpose of the cutout groove in the bottom side of the wooden cap on the back of the cab? Des it somehow play a role in holding the back cushion in?

Yes, you simply place the seat bottom in first, then put the seat back in place, resting the bottom of the seat back where it should go with the top of the seat back out. Next, just slip the top of the seat back under the wood molding (push down as you do) and it will be held in place. Watch your fingers as you push it under the wood. I got pinched the last time I put my seat back in.
