London to Brighton again

Hi all,

Thought you might enjoy this short film of my Model A on the London to Brighton run a couple of weeks ago. This is not the famous run (cars have to be pre-1905 for that) but one organised for classic, sports and kit cars. We were the second oldest car on the run - there was only a 1923 Stoneleigh Chummy older than us.

When is that then? Does it run every year? My uncle has a Model A pickup so he might be interested.

In my humble opinion, the music was great. The only objection that I could find was that you drove the whole course on the wrong side of the road! Looks like great fun!

You have to be a member of the Historic Vehicle Society to enter

There are a lot of old buses , Steamers and big trucks on the run

I was in London for only 13 days back in 05.

Did not even know, until my daughter said the L to B run was on this weekend.

Wow.

I went down to Hyde Park, and there were over 400 entries all pre .1905.

Was a sight and sound and smell to behold.

They had them in batches and flagged them off to stagger them out on the road.

They took off as if in a race, around a right hand bend and out the gate.

Spindly smoke belching rattling buggies, was great fun.

Was in Ireland a few years ago and put a lot of miles in driving on the left. Got used to it rather quickly and had no troubles with it. That is except for parking lots. I found my self driving on the right while in them. My wife was real good about reminding me to stay left. Also I found myself wanting to go to the left in round a bouts when I got back to the states. Never actually did it but the reflex to do so was strong for a while. Heading back there soon and looking forward to it. Wonderful country and super nice people.

I Live in Australia and because we were settled by the British we drive on the left. I had no difficulty in your country except where there was no or little traffic. I'd drive on the left. On coming traffic put me correct. Once I did get too close to a woman driving a VW and when she tooted I got a fright and swung towards her. I can still see her unhappy and hostile face.
My Dad was in Europe during the war, POW, and for a short time after the war. He spoke about the British and American trucks crashing head on when they met on a windy road. He said, the British pulled left and the Americans pulled right. He said that they did more damage to themselves than the Germans could have done.

that's great. I wouldn't think pedestrians have a long life by the look of your movie.

Just curious. I know the pre-1905 London to Brighton run has a time limit to complete the run. Does this one have a time limit?

No specific limit but the prize giving is at 4pm. I was already on my way home by then though!

Enjoyed the video ... and the music. We lived outside of Brighton for four years. Made that run myself, many times, but not in a model A. You would be surprised how easy it is to adapt to driving on the left.
